OOTD: Bright Colors & Winter Blues

It's been so cold in Chicago. How cold? Like "wear three layers inside of your normally well-insulated house" cold. To add to the forced isolation, is that familiar New Year push to show that you are going to do better in *insert year here*. How do you re-focus yourself when people all over social media are proclaiming #NewYearNewYou and every day ends up with you in the bathtub holding a glass of wine, seemingly unmotivated? I don't know about you, but I most definitely reach deep into my closet and pull out the bright colors.

Button-Up: Gap | Sweater: H&M | Skirt & Shoes: Thrifted | Glasses: Where Light | Enamel Pin: Logan Arch

Took this today when it started snowing (again).

If you look close, you can see it in my hair. The purple makes it stand out.

One of my personal fashion rules is to never be afraid of color - especially when it enhances your confidence. Sporting colorful clothes is sometimes my own particular brand of self-care. How could that be? Self-care does not always look like "treating yourself". Sometimes, it's just about making your body feel good - whether that be through working out, eating a nourishing meal, or dressing for success. My secret to faking it until you make it is merely to dress for the best you. Colorful me is truly the best me, especially when winter blues want to keep pushing you to the ground.

When it comes to color, I will admit I already have an unfair hair advantage.

How can you make this work for you? What is the thing that makes you feel more human at the end of the day, especially when your productivity is at an all time low? Please do this thing for yourself at least one hour this coming week. One hour of personal time - where no one bothers you; you prioritize you - is something you deserve. I hope you're taking care of yourselves this winter. Don't worry about "New Year, New You". Do what's working for you. Be healthy, eat a good meal, listen to some good music. Take it easy on yourself...and don't be afraid to wear some color during this seemingly neverending. bleak season.
