So, About that 'Doctor Who' Trailer...

At about 10:50 am this morning my eyes were glued to my phone, Twitter app open, eagerly watching the time tick down on today's World Cup Final. A soccer fan I am not - this was all about getting a sneak peek at the newest season of Doctor Who.

While the sneak peek tops out only just over a minute long, we get to see our first glance of Thirteen's companions on our screens. It was announced some time ago that Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill would be joining Jodie Whittaker as a part of the new Team TARDIS. The trailer takes us through three separate scenes - each briefly highlighting the characters as wisps of Thirteen (a glimpse of her coat; boots) drift through the scenes. There is also the interesting detail of her refilling an empty pizza box like the best BFF you've ever had, and an nod to Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor in a "blink and you'll miss it moment". (If you haven't seen the trailer quite yet, you can watch it here and see what I mean.)

But it's not the trailer itself that I want to talk about, but the feelings that it left me with.

I'm indifferent to complaints that the trailer wasn't long enough or that it didn't give fans enough information. (Don't people realize that SDCC is this week?) Instead, the trailer left me with chills and (embarrassingly) a few tears. Seeing those words "The Universe is Calling" pop up on screen with a smiling Jodie Whittaker to reinforce the message, gave me that rush - you know the one you feel when something feels like it did for the very first time? The one you feel when you know you love something to its core and it just speaks to you so deep down that you can't ignore it? That's the one. That's the feeling I got when I first heard the Ninth Doctor shout, "Run"! The feeling I got during every Tenth Doctor ramble. The feeling I got when I saw Thirteen's smile.

If the upcoming season of Doctor Who can capture even half of the excitement, adventure, and nostalgia that this trailer left me with, we will be in very good hands with the new production team, companions, and - of course - our new Doctor.
