Feeling that 80s vibe? These outfit elements (all under $30) will help you dress for the decade!

If you follow me here or over on my Instagram, @theyseekherthere, you know I am regularly inspired by vintage fashion. It really doesn't matter which decade, pretty much any era post-1890 captures my fancy and leaves me with countless ideas for OOTDs. One of my latest posted, was an 80s inspired sweater, statement earring, and bright lip color look. Because I love to bring vibrance to the dreary season that is winter, I wanted to go a bit further with the concept and put together a few different 80s inspired looks that others might be able to pull off themselves.

Tying them to a popular 80s character/style icon? Well that just sort of came to me as I began to build the outfits.

I hope that at least one of these looks speaks to you. The running theme you'll find throughout is taking a risk with color that you might not do otherwise.

Your Stylish Older Sister

Top: $29.99 - Modcloth | Lip: $6.50 - ColourPop | Earrings: $12.99 - H&M

It's not easy for me to do neutrals, but this post isn't all about what I like. If you're into a more formal look or maybe brown is "your color", this set is for you.

Pattern mixing always puts an interesting twist on a neutral look. Never mind the pseudo-pastel lip. Inspired by: Hilary Banks

Like Hilary, this look is both sophisticated and paints you as a trendsetter. I'm pushing the envelope a bit on the year, here (Fresh Prince started in 1990), but I just couldn't think of a better person to embody this particular outfit.

Your Mischievous BFF

Top: $19.90 - Forever 21 | Lip: $3.25 - NYX | Earrings: $12.00 - Modcloth

Stripes are the easiest style element to bring in if you want to make a callback to the past. I couldn't resist including one sweater that sported bold, primary colors. Coupled with another strong statement - the geometric earring - it's the perfect outfit for embarking on your next creative venture. Don't be afraid to take risks!

Inspired by: Punky Brewster

Confession time: I never really liked Punky Brewster, but I appreciate her spunk and what the character meant to many girls out there. She often wore primary colors and got up to a lot of trouble, so it felt fitting to make this look inspired by her.

Your Perfect Roommate

Top: $15.99 - Ragstock | Lip: $5.00 - L.A. Girl | Earrings: $16.00 - Francesca's

I would wear this look anytime, anywhere. Green and purple are some of my favorite color combos, and this is an easy winter look to bring out when you feel like fighting the gray days with a bright outfit.

Inspired by: Blair Warner

I watched a lot of The Facts of Life on Nick At Nite back in the day. (Please tell me I'm not the only one!) The moment I saw this sweater, it screamed "Blair" to me. Always the height of fashion and not afraid to stand out, I never knew if I wanted to be Blair's best friend or her sworn enemy. One thing is for sure, she got things done and was fiercely loyal to her group of friends.

Bonus: My Look This was the IG post that started it all:

And I put together the key elements in this look for the below set:

Top: $26.00 - Target | Lip: $7.50 - NYX | Earrings: $5.90 - Forever 21

I made a joke in the post about this being a look for Kimmy Gibbler or your "cool young aunt" from the late 80s. In truth, I was just thinking pink! I needed an excuse to wear these earrings, I was dying to wear this sweater, and the look was screaming for a cherry on top. (That would be the pink lip.)

Hoping you enjoyed this style guide and are now inspired to go out and put together your own 80s-esque looks. If want to shop or save any of the items I linked here, feel free to visit my Pinterest by clicking the link here or the Pinterest icon anywhere on this blog.
